Caloundra Power Boat Club Fishing Club - CPBCFC

Monthly Competitions

Competitions are held as per the fishing calendar distributed to members, commencing at 12:00 Midnight Friday and finishing at the weigh in from 11 am Sunday at the Club.
These competitions are for both Offshore and Estuary which can be fished from a boat, the beach or from the shore.
Competition points and divisions are as per the by-laws
Club handicap points are: Winner - 40 points and Runner Up - 20 points
Club handicaps carry across both Offshore and Estuary competitions.
Monthly competitions have a weigh in limit of 15 fish per member (See Bi Laws for more details ) with Fisheries Queensland bag limits taking precedence at all times.
A member must weigh in at least one fish to be awarded a placing (e.g. winner, runner up etc)
Other members can weigh in your catch after payment of your $5.00 weigh-in fee (includes participation in 100 club draw), however you must be present to participate in the members’ draw and be awarded a placing in a competition
In the event of a tie in an adult competition the prize or prizes will be split as will the handicap points
In the case of a tie in the Junior competition, in order to promote the sport, each placegetter will receive the full prize and the full handicap.
Pay $5.00 to club recorder (proportion used to promote junior fishing education) by 11.30 am to be eligible for entry into members’ draw and to participate in the 100 club draw. Juniors fee is NIL
Members are expected to have fulfilled their raffle and barbecue roster to participate in the sponsors’ draw.
Members must know Fisheries Queensland and club rules as to legal size and bag limits as per circulated legal/club lengths and bag limits sheet and Fisheries Queensland brochure. Fish with severed gill connections or incomplete fish must exceed the minimum legal size by at least 2cm.
The weighing of undersize fish may attract a 50 point penalty per fish and the Club Weigh Master is the sole identifier of all fish presented for weigh in. The Weigh Master has the ability to make a judgement call and this decision is final. It is recommended that any specie identification or marginal fish sizes be clarified with the Weigh Master prior to the official weigh in to avoid a potential penalty.
Competition boundaries for estuary anglers extend from Inskip Point to the Bribie Island Bridge and offshore boundaries extend from Noosa to Bribie Island Bridge and to 30 nautical miles east of these two points.
Competition hours are between the hours of 12:00 Midnight Friday and 11 am Sunday on the weekend of the competition. To be eligible to weigh in, the member must have fished a minimum of four hours or have a legal fish to weigh in.

Men’s Competition

There are two divisions in the men’s competition i.e. A grade and B grade with the winner of the B grade competition from the preceding year’s competition being promoted to A grade dependant on his ratings for the year.
The club has adopted a “rating system” whereby members are rated by dividing the progressive points total after each competition by the number of competitions fished…so giving a rating.
The A grade competition is made up of approximately the highest rated 35% of members with the B grade competition comprising approximately the remaining 65% of male members.
All new male members, except those with acknowledged ability, are placed in B grade with their ratings reviewed after each and every competition for their first six weigh ins.
If, at any stage, their rating exceeds the annual benchmark they will be immediately transferred to A grade retaining all accumulated competition and handicap points.

Weigh in and Sausage Sizzle

Weigh-in cost is $5.00 per member.
Entitles members to a Sausage Sizzle lunch
Member's family or guests are welcome at a cost of $2.00 each with frequency of participation to be managed by common sense, fairness and by the Committee.
Members to prepare the barbecue as per the circulated roster with barbecue to be cleaned after use.

Competitions

Whiting Competition

The annual whiting competition is usually held closest to the first full or new moon in early September to coincide with the first run of large whiting in the Pumicestone Passage. This competition commences at 5:00am on the Saturday with lines up at 7:00am the following morning. Weigh in commences at 8:00am in the park adjoining the Caloundra Power Boat Club boat ramp followed by a BBQ breakfast. The competition has a bag limit of 30 whiting which meets the Fisheries Queensland bag limits.

Bream Competition

The annual bream competition is usually held closest to the first full or new moon in early July to coincide with the first run of bream in the Pumicestone Passage. This competition commences at 5:00am on the Saturday with lines up at 7:00am the following morning.

Team's Competition

The annual team’s competition is a very popular event on the Club’s fishing calendar. This competition is conducted for only a six hour period on a Sunday morning. The competition commences at 5:00am with lines up at 11:00am and weigh in commencing at midday at the Caloundra Power Boat Club with a BBQ lunch.

Anglers are only permitted to weigh in a total of six fish with no more than two fish per specie. Following the weigh in, a blind draw is conducted to make two person teams. The points score for each competitor is combined with their drawn partner’s score to give an overall points team score. The 2-person team with the most points is declared the winning team.
